We Need MORE Than Motivational Quotes

Here’s a message  we all need to hear:

For a lot of people, motivational quotes are a waste of time. That motivational pic, quote, or meme will NOT help you achieve ANYTHING if you aren’t willing to do the work it takes to succeed.

Let me explain.

Hearing a motivational quote or having someone encourage you is great. We all need a bit of inspiration from time to time. Having someone in your corner is a great way to keep you motivated and focused on your goals.

Unfortunately, for many of us, that’s where it ends. We get excited about accomplishing something, but what’s missing is the actual plan to make it happen. This is why I have a problem with motivational quotes: People read that quote or look at the pretty picture, but they don’t do any research or study concrete steps of action to make their dreams a reality.

This could be a reason why so many start something and can’t finish it. They don’t realize their goals may be harder (and take longer) to achieve than they originally thought. They get frustrated and give up at the first sign of adversity.

No matter what you want to do in life, you must have a plan.  Here are a few steps we need to take to achieve the success we want:

  1. Write down your goals. When we write things down (in our own handwriting), it  helps our subconscious mind see it as a reality.  Place your handwritten notes on your refrigerator so you can see them daily.
  2. Study the experts. There’s no need to reinvent the wheel. Read books, attend seminars, listen to podcasts, and watch YouTube videos about how to achieve your specific goals. Learn from them and apply their teachings to your individual needs.
  3. Visualize the success you wish to attain. See it  as clear as possible: Where are you? What are you wearing? Who is there with you? What are they wearing? What are you all doing? What time is it? The clearer you can see your goals, the more realistic your subconscious will believe it to be, and work to make it happen.
  4. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes. The more mistakes you make, the the closer you could be to achieving success.  This sounds backwards, but its true. As we make mistakes, the idea is to tweak your plan and make the necessary adjustments that allow you to keep going. Most people see mistakes as a sign that they aren’t good enough and give up, but this is the worst thing you can do. Nothing of substance is ever accomplished without errors and miscues made along the way.  The most successful people know this, and welcome them.

Here are a few more tips on motivational quotes and achieving goals:

What goals do you want to attain? Are you trying to lose weight? Start a business? Make a lot of money? Complete a marathon or triathlon?

Whatever it is, you MUST have a plan. Don’t rely on a motivational quote or someone saying “you can do it!” to get you there. When driving your car to a place you’ve never been, you don’t just get in the car and drive. You use Google Maps or your car’s navigation system. It’s the same with your goals.

You can do it. if you have a plan.
