Let’s talk about detox. Now I imagine when I say that, the first thing people think about is buying a detox kit from the health food store or having some type of cleanse. They may even think those are required to do a detox, but in actuality, you don’t need those items to detox because the body can detox itself naturally.
For example: the liver has a wide range of functions including detoxification. It filters the blood and destroys toxins that accumulate in the blood, then prepares these toxins so the body can expel them through urine or bile.
The intestines help detox the body as well by producing natural antibiotics to break down toxins. If a person has a compromised digestive system, the body may reabsorb toxins instead of eliminating them.
The kidneys are a natural filter. They remove waste and toxins in the form of urine.
Another vital part of the detox process is the lungs. The lungs transport oxygen from the air into the bloodstream and release carbon dioxide from the bloodstream into the atmosphere. If we breathe in toxins, the lungs can expel them. Breathing deeply and fully exhaling helps to maximize the detoxifying process.
Sweating helps the body to cool itself, and it helps the body remove toxins as well.
The last way the body detoxes itself is via the lymphatic system. The lymph contains white blood cells that travel throughout the body and scoop up bacteria and other toxins, take them back to the lymph and destroy them.
So, the moral of the story is this: you don’t have to wait to go on a detox, you’re already on one. Your body is in a continual state of detox. The problem is we do things to sabotage the body’s natural detoxification process, namely our diet and poor lifestyle habits.
To help your body’s natural detoxification process, start eating the following foods daily:
- Green tea
- Raw veggies
- Green foods like spinach, kale, wheat-grass, alfalfa, greens and chlorophyll
We are bombarded with toxins constantly. Some we probably aren’t aware of, but our bodies know what they are, so it’s important we do everything we can to keep the body in it’s best condition to fight them off.
In addition to eating the proper foods, there are other things we can do to avoid toxins and maintain good health:
Don’t wait until the weekend to start your detox program, start today. Your body will thank you!
