Now we all know how important it is to brush and floss our teeth daily. Many of the foods and drinks we consume on a daily basis can damage our teeth, but did you also know that there are foods that can help clean our teeth as well?
.
Foods that are firm or crispy help clean the teeth while eaten. Here’s a short list of foods that will help keep our teeth clean:
.
Strawberries: Contain malic acid, which acts as a natural astringent to remove surface tooth discoloration.
.
Seeds & nuts: Seeds & nuts are hard foods that rub plaque and stains off the surface of teeth.
.
Apples: Apples strengthen gums, and their high water content increases saliva production, which helps neutralize the bacteria that leads to bad breath.
.
Water: Drinking water keeps the mouth hydrated, and sipping and swishing between glasses of wine when eating dark, pigmented foods will help prevent staining.
.
Baking soda: Baking soda is a mild abrasive that works to scrub off plaque and surface stains.
.
Celery and carrots: Celery & carrots help whiten teeth by stimulating saliva production, which aids in washing away food debris and strengthening gums.
.
Milk and yogurt: Diary products are high in calcium content and strengthen teeth, making enamel healthier and whiter.
.
We should aim to brush and floss our teeth twice a day, but If you’re unable to brush your teeth, or you have kids who don’t like to brush their teeth, eating these foods will help in a pinch!
