Natural Immunity To Covid? What the Science Says

There’s a lot of talk about how to deal with covid. The general consensus is the vaccine is the best option. Many say it’s the only option. In this post, we will discuss what natural immunity is and if it is effective with covid, using science-backed research studies.

This post is NOT to tell someone if they should or shouldn’t get the vaccine. The key is to do your own research and make an informed decision. Do what’s best for you.

What is Natural Immunity?

There are several definitions for the term “natural immunity:”

Immunity that is present without prior immunization.

Natural immunity is also known as “innate immunity:”

The ability to resist infection that does not depend on prior experience of the invading organism and the resultant production of antibodies or amendment or selection of LYMPHOCYTES. Natural immunity is a general and non-specific resistance to infection possessed by all healthy individuals. Also known as natural resistance.

Natural Immunity and Covid

Study #1. Lasting immunity found after recovery from COVID-19.

The immune systems of more than 95% of people who recovered from COVID-19 had durable memories of the virus up to eight months after infection. After people recover from infection with a virus, the immune system retains a memory of it. Immune cells and proteins that circulate in the body can recognize and kill the pathogen if it’s encountered again, protecting against disease and reducing illness severity.

Study #2. Reinfection Rates among Patients who Previously Tested Positive for COVID-19: a Retrospective Cohort Study.

 Prior infection in patients with COVID-19 was highly protective against reinfection and symptomatic disease. This protection increased over time, suggesting that viral shedding or ongoing immune response may persist beyond 90 days and may not represent true reinfection.

Study #3. Naturally acquired SARS-CoV-2 immunity persists for up to 11 months following infection.

Conclusion: Our data suggest that immunological memory is acquired in most individuals infected with SARS-CoV-2 and is sustained in a majority of patients for up to 11 months after recovery.

Studies indicate an immunocompromised immune system can have a direct impact on the severity of covid. this is defined as the body’s immune system defenses are low, affecting its ability to fight off infection and disease. Immune System Boosters: Honorable Mentions

In addition to the foods above, the following are excellent at strengthening the immune system:

Sunlight. We can’t stress the importance of vitamin D enough. A deficiency in vitamin D is associated with increased autoimmunity as well as an increased susceptibility to infection.  Individuals with lower vitamin D levels (<30 ng/ml) were more likely to self-report a recent upper respiratory tract infection than those with sufficient levels, even after adjusting for variables including season, age, gender, body mass and race.
